Overview

Pricing Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solutions was a time-consuming process, requiring manual calculations that took days. I designed Quicksizer, a frictionless web tool that reduced pricing time by 50% and helped ngena secure more partnerships. This case study outlines how I transformed a complex network pricing workflow into an intuitive experience.

My Role

I was responsible for translating complex network pricing workflows into an intuitive, user-friendly interface, ensuring that even non-technical users could generate pricing estimates with ease.

The Problem

Complex & Unintuitive Legacy System

The existing Business/Operations Support System (B/OSS) had a steep learning curve, making it challenging for first-time users. Users struggled with lengthy, manual workflows to get SD-WAN pricing.

Slow, Inefficient Pricing Process

Customers had to create an account or contact ngena’s sales team just to access pricing. Even after that, getting a price estimate took days or weeks due to lack of automation.

Personal Learning Curve

As someone new to network design & SD-WAN, I had to deeply collaborate with the Product Owner to understand the domain before translating it into a user-friendly tool.

The Challenge

Status Quo

The existing B/OSS system had a complex user interface, steep learning curve, making it difficult for first-time users to navigate. This often delayed price estimates for days or weeks, frustrating both network engineers and sales teams.

Process

Research & Initial Concept

By the time I joined, the Product Owner had discovered a more efficient way to shorten the pricing process and created an Excel-based tool to generate non-binding price estimates. We worked together to translate this logic into an interactive web-based tool that users could navigate effortlessly.

Design Phase

To ensure speed and ease of use, I designed QuickSizer with:
✅ A six-click limit to get pricing results quickly
✅ A clean, step-by-step flow to guide users intuitively
✅ Instant on-screen results, eliminating the need for additional calculations

One of the biggest challenges was simplifying complex network configurations for users with varying technical backgrounds. By closely collaborating with the Product Owner and developers, we ensured the UI was accessible to both experienced network engineers and sales teams unfamiliar with SD-WAN configurations.

Stakeholder Feedback & Iteration

After designing the first mockups, we presented them to internal stakeholders, including the CEO and sales teams. While they appreciated the approach, they requested:

  • Support for different pricing scenarios

  • More flexibility in how estimates were generated

  • Interactive graphics to visually represent network locations

Rebrand

The QuickSizer project incorporated a rebranding, starting with an external design agency that laid the foundations. I reviewed their designs during regular meetings via Zoom and Figma, ensuring feasibility and accessibility. When the agency’s contract ended, the internal marketing team and I took over, completing the rebrand through iterative check-ins to align with stakeholder feedback.

Final Design

To enhance visual clarity and engagement, I designed a rotatable 3D globe that displayed the added network locations as connected points. Users could drag to rotate the globe, making it easy to explore network connections dynamically, improving spatial awareness of global deployments.

Results & Impact

  • Reduced pricing time by more than 50%, drastically improving efficiency

  • Positive feedback from the CEO, sales teams, and partners

  • Helped ngena secure more partnerships by making pricing transparent and accessible

Learnings

This project taught me that breaking down complex domains takes time, but deep collaboration with experts makes it easier to design intuitive solutions.

It also showed me that interactive visuals improve understanding—the rotatable 3D globe made complex network data more engaging.

I learned that stakeholder collaboration is key—early feedback helped balance business goals with user needs.

Finally, this taught me that simplicity is powerful—removing friction, like eliminating login and reducing clicks, led to higher adoption and efficiency.
